The Different Levels of Hospice Care

the-different-levels-of-hospice-care

In most cases, hospice agencies are paid by Medicare a daily rate for every day the patient avails of and enrolled in the hospice benefit such as the hospice care assistance in New Mexico. This daily payment rate is for the hospice’s expenses for offering services that are included in the patient care plans. Medicare provides this payment according to one of the four levels of hospice care as follows:

  1. Routine Home Care
It’s when the patient decides to receive hospice care at home from healthcare professionals like those provided by medical staffing in New Mexico and isn’t availing of continuous home care. Considered a patient’s home is their home, a skilled nursing facility, as well as an assisted living facility.
  2. Continuous Home Care
It’s when both of the following apply: the patient receives hospice care in a home environment that’s not an in-patient facility, such as a hospital, hospice in-patient unit, etc., and the care provided comprises mostly nursing care that’s continuously at home.
  3. In-Patient Respite Care
It’s when the patient opts to receive hospice care in an authorized in-patient facility for a maximum of 5 successive days to give their caregiver the chance to take a rest.
  4. General In-Patient Care
It’s when the patient chooses to avail of hospice care in an inpatient facility intended for controlling pain or the management of acute or chronic symptoms that cannot be done in other types of settings.
